WTF IS THIS?

We writers spend hours, days, years writing a single script. Perfecting each line of dialogue, listening to the voices in our heads that talk to us, telling us where they want to go next, what they want to say. Type, type, type. We talk to our screens, we read our words aloud, and we are usually the ONLY ones that read our words aloud.

But we write a script with the hopes of hearing it performed by actors. Actors who will bring our characters to life. To finally know what all that time spent ultimately SOUNDS like.

More often than not this doesn't happen and eventually the script goes into the drawer where all our other silent babies live. I remember the first time I heard a script of mine read at a table. It was scary, emotional, amazing, humbling, and helpful to me on every level as an artist. 

BUT THOSE MOMENTS ARE RARE.

More often than not our scripts make their way up, up, up, ooooh so close and then... over into the trash bin. 

So how 'bout for one night only, with our actor friends, we hear those silent babies talk? 

This is NOT in order to sell, resurrect, hustle, or network (god knows we've all done that with every script we've ever written and it's exhausting, humiliating, sometimes exciting, but mostly disappointing). 

No. 

Greetings, This Is Your Pilot Speaking is a night for fun, for free (other than a two drink minimum) and to remind ourselves why we write. 

So, who's in? 

Go into those drawers and dust off that shit that collected notes, food stains, and tears. 

AND NO REWRITING.

That's right, however tempting it may be to rewrite when reading our old scripts (trust me, I just read one of mine and immediately wanted to "fix" it), please don't. Let the flaws, the bad exposition, the out of date jokes, the beautiful mess of it all remain in that time stamp where it died. 

Because this to for us to PLAY, to SOCIALIZE, and to HEAR

all those words that poured out of our imaginations and onto the page FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY.
